Pentachlorophenol(pcp) Risk Characterization Document
Pentachlorophenol is a pesticide used to protect wood products against microbial degradation andinsect infestation. A dermal absorption value of 29.2% was obtained from a study using monkeys.A default inhalation absorption of 100% was used in the estimation of absorbed dosages.Elimination of PCP in humans is primarily by urinary excretion of free and glucuronide-conjugatedpentac...
متن کاملPhosphorus-31 nuclear magnetic resonance study of the effect of pentachlorophenol (PCP) on the physiologies of PCP-degrading microorganisms.
Free and agarose-encapsulated pentachlorophenol (PCP)-degrading Sphingomonas sp. isolates UG25 and UG30 were compared to Sphingomonas chlorophenolica ATCC 39723 with respect to the ability to degrade PCP. Pretreatment of the UG25 and UG30 strains with 50 microg of PCP per ml enabled the cells to subsequently degrade higher levels of this environmental pollutant. Similar treatment of ATCC 39723 ...
متن کاملPhytoremediation and long-term site management of soil contaminated with pentachlorophenol (PCP) and heavy metals.
Pentachlorophenol (PCP) is a persistent organic pollutant (POP) previously used as a timber treatment chemical to prevent sap stain and wood rot. Commonly used in wood treatment industries for the last 50 years, there are now many sites worldwide that are contaminated with PCP. Although persistent, PCP is a mobile contaminant and therefore has a propensity to leach and contaminate surrounding e...
متن کاملEthylene production by soil microorganisms.
Ethylene-producing strains of Penicillium cyclopium and P. crustosum were isolated from soil. These isolates produced ethylene on a variety of carbon growth substrates including phenolic acids. The quantities of ethylene produced on the various substrates varied, and the subtrate-ethylene prosuction pattern for P. cyclopium strains differed significantly from that of P. crustosum strains.
متن کاملThe pentachlorophenol-dehalogenating Desulfitobacterium hafniense strain PCP-1.
In this report, a complete description of Desulfitobacterium hafniense strain PCP-1 is presented. The D. hafniense strain PCP-1 was isolated from a methanogenic consortium for its capacity to dehalogenate pentachlorophenol (PCP) into 3-chlorophenol. This strain is also capable of dehalogenating several other chloroaromatic compounds and tetrachloroethene into trichloroethene. Four gene loci enc...
